The brief
Sentry Interactive needed one digital ecosystem for every device in a building, from mobile apps to lobby kiosks, built around security and a good experience for visitors and staff. Doordeck's access control had to be part of it, so the same system could open doors.
What we built
- Research first
- Market benchmarking and research with visitors and employees, to understand what each of them needs.
- One front-end for every device
- Flutter Web runs the console and the kiosk on whatever hardware a building has. A kiosk in a tower can call a receptionist who answers from their phone, or an all-Apple setup can call from an iPad and answer on a MacBook Air.
- A backend that does the coordination
- A scalable architecture on AWS with Kotlin, Armeria and gRPC: kiosk-to-reception calls, calendars, NFC and QR door permissions and an admin panel for facility clients, with security built into every layer.
- Interfaces for everyone involved
- Separate, consistent interfaces for visitors, employees and reception, designed together with the developers so the app, the console and the kiosk feel like one product.

Testing, deployment and upkeep
Every component was tested on its own and together at each stage of development. Devices in the field are managed centrally with Console Manager and Fully Cloud EMM, so faults show up in real time and devices can be configured from anywhere. Adding a new kiosk or tablet to a building is a matter of enrolling it.
The outcome
A complete operating system for Sentry Interactive's devices, secure and efficient access control, and a product that raised customers' confidence in the brand.
